waterloo road- section A

In the scene the school girl is directing the teacher how to dress ‘young’ and ‘fashionable’. This is shown by the school teacher being shown by a long shot, wearing a t-shirt which stereotypically isn’t something that someone of his age group would wear, therefore it looks tideous on him. The girl is then shot in a downwards shot, to represent age. However, this is a example of a binary opposite, because the girl is telling the teacher what to do, rejecting the norm of which the teacher tells the student what to do. This is a theory of the older vs younger generation which is being shown as the younger generation being wiser due to their ‘street cred’ being significantly higher than adults, which makes them feel superior over the adult, because they are not being told what to do for once. However it contradicts the younger generation being wiser, because other teachers make fun of what the teacher is dressed like and his naivety for going along with the students recommendations, so in reality she isn’t giving helpful advice? This is supported because as the student was talking to the teacher he was standing on a set of stairs, this shows the school hierarchy between them (him being at the top and her being at the bottom as a student) therefore she will never have more relevance than him in reality.
